For example, in 2007 the club’s energy committee organized a NSTAR Save a Light CFL bulb drive that sold over 2,000 energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs and raised more than $5,000 to help fund its key event, the Global Climate Change Summit - for students in grades 7-12. BLS Youth CAN has also been involved in the National ‘‘teach-in” on global climate change solutions which included a faculty initiative to incorporate environmental issues into the classroom, and also helped minimize the school’s carbon footprint by arranging for a building-wide energy audit, starting a capital campaign to fund a green roof, and forming a cycling club to encourage students to bike to school. On April 14, 2009, Passage of Article 3 at the Town Meeting ensured that 27 acres on which Natick Community Organic Farm sits was secured in perpetuity as conservation land. The land was put under the auspices of the Town of Natick’s Conservation Commission. Warner Farm is a diversified fruit and vegetable farm in Sunderland, MA. Nine generations of Warners have farmed here since the 1720's, and we continue that legacy by employing sustainable growing practices and implementing Integrated Pest Management to manage disease and insect pressure. Integrated Pest Management implies a preventative care approach, with the focus on raising healthy plants in healthy soils for healthy people. We strive to maintain biological diversity on the farm, and we are constantly working on improving our crop and land rotation and cultivation practices to improve natural plant resistance to insect, disease and weed pressure.
